MuZette
Tom
Reese, flute & Laurie Haines Reese, cello
Since 1990, the husband & wife
team of Tom & Laurie Reese have fused their diverse backgrounds into a unique style.
Their eclectic style combines elements of classical, jazz, celtic & folk music, and
creates a new sound. A high level of musicianship combines with a
strong creative urge, and MuZette takes flight into musical fantasy. This
combination of an award-winning composer & a classically trained cellist engages
audiences of all ages. Their repertoire includes standards in all these
fields in addition to originals. They have also produced several
award-winning CD’s of original music.
Tom & Laurie have performed concerts for young & old
alike. They have played in New York City, Canada, Kansas City, Tulsa,
Wisconsin, New Jersey, Florida & others. They have been invited back to
most places they play (including clubs in NYC & Canada). As part of the PA
Council on the Arts, they go into schools for up to ten days, teaching music,
building instruments, and giving concerts & assemblies. They have received
outstanding marks on evaluations for their work in the schools.
Improvisation is a key to their
performances. Tom's background is jazz; Laurie has a
master's degree in classical cello performance. Combining their different
musical backgrounds has led to a wide circle of performance opportunities.
Traditional Irish & celtic tunes proved to be the meeting ground between Tom's
jazz experience and Laurie's classical training. They developed this love
into Wyndfall, playing traditional celtic music, and branching into folk rock &
rock.
Not wanting to abandon their individual musical roots, however, Tom
& Laurie each pursued their own voices. This led to the creation of several
more ensembles, in each style. Each ensemble is unique, performing
originals written for the group as well as traditional music in their field. They have surrounded themselves with an exciting group of musicians.
These additional musical collaborations include jazz (The Reese Project), classical (Susquehanna) & folk music (Wyndfall).

"...we were entertained by a most charming duo,
MuZette. They played beautiful music, shared a lot of background on their
education, their music, their meeting and marriage and their life of making
beautiful music together. Both of them were so gracious and entertaining in
their discussions and sharing with the Senior Citizens. If you were not
present, you missed an excellent program."
